COLONIAL SOCIETY ON THE EVE OF REVOLUTION

The intial focus of this unit will be on change and growth in the English colonies during the 18th century, up to 1763, when (as we shall see in the next unit) the nature of English governance of the colonies changed.  Much of this growth was driven by changes in Europe--most especially, of course, in the case of four successive colonial wars.  After 1763, the focus will be on the growing divisions between the American colonies and Great Britain as they evolved through a series of crises, ending with the decision to declare independence.
